Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art founded by Gen. Choi Hong Hi (9th Degree) on 11th April 1955. It was conceived and developed in the Korean military during the early 19th century and continues to grow to this day as one of the most scientific, dynamic striking martial arts in history. There are many separate organisations of Taekwon-Do, and we are a member of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF).
ITF Taekwon-Do is composed of many elements, including self-defence, step-sparring, sparring, flying techniques and of course, patterns- the essence of this martial art. All of these elements aim to teach a student the necessities of self-defence by practising the most effective movements to either diffuse or end an unarmed conflict.
We strive to instil the Taekwon-Do tenants of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit in our students both inside and outside the dojang (training hall) and these 5 tenants are represented as the five points on our Red Star.
Taekwon-Do can be enjoyed as a weekly past-time or competitive sport and we offer both of these choices to our students.
